ABSTRACT

Civilizational literacy refers to the process of understanding, internalizing, or reconstructing the values and systems of civilization through reading. In this context, modern Chinese readers and textbooks embody the complex task of reconciling the acceptance of Western civilization with traditional values. These materials serve as significant resources for exploring how society at the time implemented and developed civilizational literacy. This study focuses on analyzing 50 widely used modern Chinese language textbooks from the modern period of China to examine the distinctive features of civilizational literacy during different time periods.
