ABSTRACT

This study compares and evaluates the illustration design of Chinese textbooks for young children in South Korea and the United States, selecting the indigenous Korean textbook New 니하오 어린이 중국어 and the American textbook My First Chinese Words. Both are international and Chinese textbooks tailored to children's age stages and cultural characteristics. This paper designs an evaluation scale for illustration design in native preschool Chinese textbooks based on three assessment scales-Byrd and Cele-Murcia, Ruby, and Litz-and highlights differences in illustration strategies between Korean and American preschool textbooks.
