ABSTRACT

Byeokpajeong in Jindo is Nujeong where lots of poetical compositions remain. This thesis investigated the cultural historical meaning of Byeokpajeong and existence aspect of Byeokpajeong's poetical composition. Major content discussed here is as follows. First, the researcher illuminated the purpose of the research by surveying the appearance of Byeokpajeong which does not exist at present. And concretely examined the period of foundation and ruin of Byeokpajeong, which is still not clear. That is, the researcher confirmed that it was founded in the middle of the Goryeo Dynasty or before then, and disappeared Japanese colonial era, which was before 1924. And above all, the researcher paid attention to the specialty that the foundation location of Byeokpajeong has, as the public Nujeong established in major marine transportation point. Due to this specialty, bureaucrats who followed the royal command or unlucky exiled persons often visited Byeokpajeong. Because of this, Byeokpajeong came to have a unique and symbolic meaning, i.e. Nujeong of farewell. Next, the researcher investigated the appearance of the existence of Byeokpajeong's poetic composition through the content of literature transmission. As the result, it was confirmed that about 30 writers left poetical works through public literature and private collection of works. According to status, they were mostly of bureaucrats' poetical composition, who admired Byeokpajeong's fine view and exiled persons' poetical composition, who lamented over their unfortunate position. Representative writers were Go jo-gi, Chae bo-moon, Jo hee-jik, Hong jeok, Kim jeong, No soo-sin, particularly, Hong jeok's works which had lots of Chawoon(using other poet's phrases) stood out. Lastly, pointed out that a task is remaining to investigate how the characteristic of Byeokpajeong was expressed in the poetical composition as the Nujeong of farewell.
