ABSTRACT

This paper aims to assess the research status and present the tasks in studying Sino-Korean poems found in diaries. By doing so, it seeks to contribute to the activation of research on Sino-Korean poems in diaries. Research on Sino-Korean poems found in diaries has started relatively recently, and this study confirmed the existence of 19 papers on 17 different diaries. The number of published papers has gradually increased over time, with 2 papers in the 2000s, 10 papers in the 2010s, and 7 papers up until May 2023 in the 2020s. Various diaries from the Joseon Dynasty were examined, including war diaries, daily life diaries, travel diaries, exile diaries, official diaries, and scholarly diaries, all of which contained Sino-Korean poems. Additionally, research on these Sino-Korean poems and their significance in portraying the inner thoughts of the diarists during the tumultuous period of early 20th century under Japanese colonial rule was also identified. Research on Sino-Korean poems in diaries contributes to enhancing the value and utility of diaries. However, it should be noted that the diaries examined for this research represent only a small portion of the entire collection. Therefore, to further promote the study of Sino-Korean poems in diaries, the following research tasks have been identified. First, a systematic survey of Sino-Korean poems in diaries should be conducted. Second, information on Sino-Korean poems in the diaries included in the diary-related DB should be provided. Third, academic conferences by theme related to Sino-Korean poems in the diary should be held.
