AB - In the Old Testament, it was discovered that the mother was absent when the daughters were in trouble, and it was thought that the mother's absence made it more difficult to solve the difficult situation the daughters experienced.
This paper attempts to present the mother's role and how the daughter's situation might have improved if the mother helped her daughter as she helped her son, through a study of the story of a mother helping her troubled son in the Old Testament. In Chapter 1, the research purpose, research scope and method were presented. Chapter 2 reveals the phenomenon of the mother's absence in the stories of daughters in trouble: the rape of Shechem (Genesis 38), the rape of Gibeah (Judges 19), and the rape of Amnon (2Sa 13). In Chapter 3, the mother was observed actively helping her son. Here, we reviewed the stories of Sarah and Isaac (Genesis 21), Rebekah and Jacob (Genesis 27), Bathsheba and Solomon (1 Kings 1), and the lady of Shunem and her son (2 Kings 4).
As a result, it was found that the four mothers actively voiced and acted for the benefit of their sons, confronting and cheating on their husbands. Looking at the four mothers who actively intervened in their son's problems, we can see that in the Old Testament times, mothers had authority in the family and were protectors and nurturers. Therefore, it is not correct to assume that the mother's absence in the case of the daughter in trouble is due to the culture in which the mother cannot play a role as a guardian within the family. In Chapter 4, the reasons for the absence of mothers for daughters were examined. The reason is, firstly, because of the patriarchal society's preference for sons. In this era, the mother's most important task is to give birth to, protect, and nurture a son who will inherit the family line, so they do not pay attention to the relationship between daughter and mother. The second is a theological reason. The characteristic of the story of a mother for her son is that they were supported by God. And God's support made the mother positively evaluate the mother who actively went out for her son. As a result, it made me think that caring for sons, not daughters, was an important task given to mothers by God. In Chapter 5, in conclusion, it was suggested that women's solidarity is essential. First, on that basis. It was suggested that if she had helped her daughters as a mother had helped her sons, her daughters' situation would have been much better. Second, there are examples of fathers and mothers helping their daughters in the New Testament, and Jesus healed their daughters of illness and demon possession at their request. Through the example of the New Testament, it was shown that daughters can receive help and change their lives if parents help them. Therefore, support and solidarity for women are absolutely necessary to solve the problem of the church where women are discriminated against.
