AB - 這一連的論爭, 表面上是文藝人士之間以文藝自由爲論題進行的, 而其實在社會的階級間爲了被承認自己的社會的存在的激烈的競爭, 又是追究文藝和文化的性格. 和五⋅四結合觸發的現代文學和文化運動的性格在根據客觀規律機械地指定階級, 其階級的政治的､ 文化的霸權越來越加強的情況下, 以自由人和第三種人代表的自由主義者指定其意識爲虛偽的中心意識, 反對作爲公的意識的階級意識的單一的支配, 他們要把運動的性格回歸到五⋅四的批判精神. 對左翼文人來說客觀世界其本身是絕對的規律. 歷史的特定階段符合這階段的規律的階級只有一個, 其他的不是現實的, 不是存在的, 所以是虛偽的階級. 這歷史階段裏唯一的階級的主觀､ 即認識客觀規律, 實現其規律的階級主觀的意識才能談, 其他的也都是假的, 沒有現實的意義. 他們說的自由是主體認識客觀規律､ 實現客觀規律, 這整個過程當中才能體現的. 與此相反, 自由主義者看的客觀世界不是單一性的世界, 而是包含多樣性的世界. 這獨立的客觀世界一樣, 這世界裏的每個存在都有獨立地存在的權利. 他們說的自由能說是存在的自由. 所以前者歸結於政治的判斷和實踐, 後者以承認每個存在的獨立性和多樣性的文化的觀點接近問題. 他們雖然承認通過階級鬥爭發展的歷史, 不過主張多樣個體或者階級的存在. 在此胡風強調主觀的意志調節對立的兩方的主張, 而且要求文藝家挖出以現實的名義隱蔽著的真實.
