AB - Seohaemureunggi西海武陵記, created in the 19th century around, is a Korean romantic novel that depicts the process of overcoming various obstacles such as close marriage, kidnapping of bride and conflict with parents. This narrative focuses on Finding Wife, so this study analyzed the structure of it to understand various aspects of characters and events in a unified perspective. Then their functions were examined. According to the examination, first of all, Finding Wife is based on the confrontation of two men with a woman in between. Two men, husband and bandit are described as having a contrasting temperament and appearance. Though the husband seems to be in relative inferiority, it eventually results in a victory of him with moral justification. Second, the difficulties that husband and wife have to solve in order to reunite and escape is resolved through the intervention of assistants. There two types of assisants: direct assistant with transcendent ability and indirect assistant with characteristic of antagonist. Last, chastity, which is the subject of the work, is embodied through the three main characters of the work, and affection is achieved as a reward for this.
