ABSTRACT

This article targets the Manchuria of the Russo-Japanese War period;and, second, it reviews the actual aspect and effect of the railroad Changga and military songs of Japan. Third it looks into the role and value of the Changga and military songs for arousing an all-out war effort inside Japan. The Manhan railroad Changga by Oodawa Dakeki is a song primarily created for children’s geography education;however, this work focused on “Manhan management” and the offering of geographical information for its continued existence. With this aim, this article examined intensively the victory and hard battles of Japanese soldiers in Manchuria during the Russo-Japanese War. Also the article examines the way of promoting the pre-modernistic pattern of the lives and customs of Manchurian people before civilization spread widely. Ultimately the Manhan Railroad Changga was an artistic mechanism that enhanced the superiority and colonialism of the modern civilization of Japanese imperialism, and it justified the invasion and rule of the colony prior to it becoming a product of tourism. Many military songs were created and distributed to boost the morale of Japanese soldiers and mobilize people for all-out war and to enable Japan to defeat Manchuria and extend Japan into the world through mobilization. Military songs are usually sung on the field of war;however, they also contribute to the remembrance and commemoration of the war dead. In particular, Song for female soldiers functioned as a song that plays a variation of the ideology of the “good wife and wise mother” appropriate for modern daily life to mobilize the women of a nation at war who labor and fight at the rear. Such an all-out war of the empire was like fascist violence that excludes and distorts the history and lives of Manchurian people in the battle field of Manchuria.
