ABSTRACT

The aim of this study is to investigate how a newly developed TESOL training program for secondary English teachers could be effective in developing their communicative language ability and teaching ability. Another purpose of this study is to examine the possibility of replacement for the study abroad training program if the domestic TESOL program is highly satisfactory with secondary English teachers. The data from an online survey are analyzed by quantitative research analysis. The analysis of the questionnaires indicates that most trainees who participated in the TESOL training program are satisfied with the organization of the TESOL curriculums and provide highly positive reflections on the improvements of their teaching ability and skills along with their communicative language ability. The results also suggest that the well-developed TESOL program for an EFL setting can be a good replacement for the study abroad training program. To accomplish the TEE(Teaching English in English) goals in the real language classrooms, the TESOL program can be an effective alternative as an immersion training program with its qualified teacher-trainers and well-organized curriculums.
