ABSTRACT

This study was designed for two purposes. The first one is to present the qualification criteria of good secondary English teachers. The second is to analyze the examination questions for employing secondary school English teachers from 2006 to 2008, 2009 mock examination questions and 2009 authentic examination questions and to compare the results of the previous examination questions until 2008 and the new-reformed examination questions on 2009. Through this analysis process, the new reformed examination was confirmed whether or not it is a proper selection system with appropriate assessment measures. The study was proceeded as follows. First, general criteria on English teacher's qualification was defined by researching the preceding studies. Second, a needs study of employment exam was conducted for the college of education students and secondary school English teachers. Third, the examination questions from 2006 to 2009 including 2009 mock examination were analyzed and the previous exam system and the new reformed system were compared. Findings of this study are as follows: First, current examination was proven not to meet the real demands. Second, the examination from 2006 to 2008 was lack of consistency because the domains and number of questions for each domain were determined by different exam committee members each year.
