ABSTRACT

Koh, Kyeong-Tae. 2009. A Pilot Study on the Teaching Korean Adverbs through the ‘Adverb+Verb’ Collocation. Korean Semantics. 28. This study aims to argue that adverbs should be taught with the related verbs which are modified by them, as it were ‘adverb+verb’ collocation, and to propose how to find out the appropriate contents of adverbs through the large-scaled corpora. It seems that there are few who gives full attention to adverbs as a teaching contents, and it is partly because the property that adverbs are optional constituents in sentences or utterances. However, adverbs should be considered as necessary teaching contents in that they could help foreigners to grow up Korean language skill. For this reason, I tried to look for the adverbs in SEJONG corpora composed of 10 million words, and suggested that a adverb which is adjacent a verb could be a resonable teaching item in that the right side word would be a head component of a left-side word in Korean.
