ABSTRACT

This study explores the self-employment choices, challenges, and coping experiences of migrant youth engaged in self-employment through qualitative research. The study was conducted using the Consensual Qualitative Research method with seven young entrepreneurs with migrant backgrounds. The results revealed four domains and 31 categories: “Influences and Triggers for Choosing Self-Employment”(Domain 1), “Challenges in the Process of Operating a Business”(Domain 2), “Coping with Difficulties Experienced in Self-Employment”(Domain 3), and “Satisfaction and Expectations of Self-Employment”(Domain 4). This study highlights the cultural and occupational uniqueness of migrant youth entrepreneurs. The significance of this study lies in providing foundational data for the labor market transition and stable settlement of young entrepreneurs with migrant backgrounds. Based on the results, recommendations were made to expand career alternatives for young entrepreneurs and support their stable settlement in Korea.
