ABSTRACT

In this paper, the historical recognition of high school Korean history textbooks was examined through a quantitative and macro approach. Sixteen terms representing historical recognition were selected, and the frequency of these terms and the structure of the network centered on these terms were analyzed. As a result, it was possible to identify a remarkable difference in terms of the types of terminology used and the distribution of frequencies between the pre-modern and modern history descriptions. In addition, when we look at the structure of the network, we can see that in the third period, the network of ‘min-jog’ (nation), ‘dog-lib’ (independence), ‘un-dong’ (movement) and ‘jeon-gae’ (development) was connected with ‘sa-hoe’ (society) and ‘nong-min’ (peasant) in the context of modern social movements. The connected relationship thus formed was judged to form the core structure of historical recognition based on ‘internal development’. In the end, it can be said that the historical recognition of the internal development theory in textbooks appeared in the third curriculum and was firmly established in the fifth curriculum.
