ABSTRACT

This study was aimed at defining errors of consecutive interpreting of Korean Japanese speakers in terms of the vocabulary and the sentence using the result of Japanese-Korean consecutive interpreting made by unprofessional Korean Japanese learners who did not receive interpretation training in a lecture. The study also states what should be taught in Japanese classes to prevent the errors. The results, in terms of the vocabulary, revealed errors in numbers including years, high-level Kanji such as technical terms and errors in native words including compound verbs, collocations, and idioms. In terms of the sentence level, omission of numbers like years and adverbs as well as the latter part of the sentence were found. Japanese classes in all levels should provide listening training for numbers to prevent errors in the vocabulary. Every field shall prepare a Kanji vocabulary list. For native words like compound verbs, collocations, and idioms, intensive training is required. To prevent errors at the sentence level, the Japanese learners shall try to understand the topic of a lecture and have to be guided to use note-taking rather than a lap top.
