ABSTRACT

Objectives: This study reports two cases of menopausal hot flush, sweating, and epigastric fullness in Soyangin patients treated with Hyeongbangdojeok-san gamibang. Methods: Two female patients were diagnosed with Soyangin chest-congestion pattern based on body shape, appearance, temperament, ordinary symptoms, and present symptoms. They received Sasang constitutional treatment, including Hyeongbangdojeok-san gamibang, acupuncture, moxibustion, cupping, and infrared therapy. Outcomes were retrospectively evaluated using numeric rating scale (NRS) and accompanying symptoms. Results: Hot flush and sweating improved from NRS 5 to 2 in Case 1 and from NRS 5 to 1 in Case 2. Epigastric fullness improved from NRS 5 to 0 in both cases. Accompanying symptoms also improved. Conclusions: These cases suggest that Sasang constitutional medicine treatment may improve menopausal hot flush, sweating, epigastric fullness, and accompanying symptoms in Soyangin patients with chest-congestion symptomatic pattern, especially when hormone therapy is discontinued or difficult to apply
