ABSTRACT

The purpose of this study was to explore the aspect of students-athletes in a physical education high school. Four student-athletes and five teachers participated in this project. Semi-structured interviews with the student-athletes and teachers were undertaken for data collection. Data collected were analyzed through constructivit grounded theory. Three central phenomena emerged: i) students-athletes placed the importance on study rather than participating sport events, ii) indiviudal learning was one of the most important method of managing students-athletes’ academy record and they did not fully satisfied with curriculum and learning programs in the physical education high school, and iii) there were difficulties and limitations for supporting student-athletes’ learning that were based on characteristics of physical education high school. The necessity of changing view the nature of physical education high school and directions and plans to support student-athletes in physical education high schools were discussed.
