ABSTRACT

This study is a collaborative autoethnographic on the experiences of middle and high school physical education teachers as career guidance counselors for student athletes. It aims to examine cases of career guidance counseling conducted for all school sports teams, elementary, middle, and high school student athletes, and students who wish to become student athletes nationwide, and the educational implications that emerged during the process. Data from short, in-depth, and group interviews were collected and inductive category analysis was conducted on the experiences during the period of participation as career guidance counselors for student athletes. As a result, career guidance counseling for student athletes was meaningful in that it provided good information to student athletes based on public education, provided an opportunity to explore and design career paths, and brought about changes in the perception of career guidance for student athletes through the expansion of expertise through collective intelligence. Based on the results and discussions of the study, it is expected that the experience of career guidance counseling for student athletes will be used as basic data to seek the direction of progressive career guidance and establish various physical education policies for school sports teams and student athletes.
