ABSTRACT

Authors examine the relationships between residents’ community attachment and attitudes toward tourism development in the destination. The analysis was from 143 questionnaires returned by residents of Tae-Baek of Kangwon Province and Jung-Moon region of Jeju Province. In terms of development stages for tourism, the former is at introduction stage and the latter is at involvement stage. The analysis found that the relationship between community attachment and attitudes toward tourism development was changing from positive at introduction stage to weak positive relationship at involvement stage of tourism development. Also, the attitudes for supporting tourism development were found positively influenced by the identity of attachment in case of introductory stage. Authors conclude that the knowledge for residents’ community attachment might be useful for understanding the residents’ attitudes toward tourism development for the introduction stage of tourism development.
