ABSTRACT

In previous studies, several motivational factor scales with regard to local festival participation have been tested by means of exploratory factor analysis. They have, however, some methodological and theoretical limitations, such as lack of adaptability in other festival settings, validity, and generalizability of the scales. Conducting first- and second-order confirmatory factor analyses, the current study tested validity and adaptability of the motivational scale developed by Jang Joo Lee (2003) using a data collected from visitors of two local festivals, Simcheong and Baegryeon Festivals. After deleting four improper items from the original scale with 21 items, a first-order confirmatory factor analysis was conducted separately for each festival data. The result of the analysis indicated that six latent motive factors suggested by Lee (2003) were confirmed to be valid with reasonable model fit in both cases, and the second-order analysis also suggested a similar results confirming the adaptability and validity of the scale in both festivals.
