ABSTRACT

This study attempts to analyze the structure of the tour mechanism related to the meaning of historical tourism which is being noted recently. Especially, this study approaches by the new interpretation of the characteristics of the historical tourism in the view of imperialism. The Unesco world heritage, the representing historical heritages and tourist objects, are unfairly distributed worldwide, which raises the suspicion if international political power involves in the registration process of the heritages. In other words, this phenomenon can be another form of cultural imperialism. If we look at the case of Japanese industrial heritage being attempted to register to Unesco, it is very different from the registration of existing historical tour related areas. Namely, a big worry is raised by the fact that the Japanese heritage registration to Unesco is engaged with the cultural policy basis reflected by its militaristic ideology, which consequently, causes its degenerating to the tool of neo-colonialism or imperialism.
