ABSTRACT

This study examines the effect of motivation of participants in rural tourism education on behavioral intention, as well as participants’ engagement in tourism and gender influence on behavioral intention. For this, 183 samples were collected from participants in rural tourism education and used for analysis. The findings indicated that motives for participation in rural tourism education were composed of three factors: personal network, intrinsic satisfaction, and social utility, all of which positively influenced behavioral intention. Personal network most strongly affected behavioral intention, followed by intrinsic satisfaction and social utility. The results show that both participants’ engagement in tourism and gender have a significant effect on behavioral intention. It implies that individual variables including participation motives for education should be considered to induce positive behavioral intentions in rural tourism education. Also needed are special programs or schemes to boost interaction among participants to build networks.
