ABSTRACT

This study was conducted to diagnose the overall trends and problems of local tourism development projects, which have been promoted under public initiative for the past 10 years, and to seek implications for future regional tourism development projects on a reflective basis. The culture and tourism resource development projects of Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism was analyzed through the text network analysis. The trends of major projects were identified and visualized as network maps. The results showed that many hardware and software projects have been carried out under the themes of ‘culture’, ‘theme’, ‘ecology’, ‘experience’, and ‘history.’ In addition, 'road' related projects have been sporadically developed by a number of similar types of overlapping projects. Meanwhile, by analyzing the connection between 'park' and 'culture', which have the highest frequency and centrality, it was confirmed that 'park' is connected with nature-oriented keywords and 'culture' is connected with comprehensive keywords. Finally, based on the results of the research, we provided suggestions for efficient public-led regional tourism development projects in the future, including a distinctive tourism development plan with regional and topical differentiation and the selection of specific and clear project names.
