ABSTRACT

This study examined the trajectory of life satisfaction among children from international marriage families during upper elementary school years and identified its predictors. This study utilized data from the 1st to 3rd wave(2019–2021) of MAPS 2 and targeted 1,734 children from international marriage families. The main findings of this study are as follows. First, the analysis of the life satisfaction trajectory among children from international marriage families, using an unconditional latent growth model, revealed a consistent decline in life satisfaction each year. Second, a conditional latent growth model analysis was conducted to examine whether ecological factors (acculturative stress, self-esteem, social competence, school adjustment, and social support) predict the life satisfaction trajectory of these children. Predictors influencing the intercept of trajectory of life satisfaction included acculturative stress, self-esteem, social competence, school adjustment, and social support. Predictors affecting the slope were identified as acculturative stress, self-esteem, social competence, and social support. Based on these findings, this study proposed practical suggestions to enhance the life satisfaction of upper elementary school children from international marriage families.
