Thrmobospondin-1 is the multifunctional protein that modulates endothelial cell and tumor cell behavior via several cell surface receptors and inhibits angiogenesis. In vitro, thrombospondin-1 alters adhesion, proliferation, motility, and survival of endothelial and cancer cells. Studies have confirmed that increased TSP-1 expression suppresses growth or metastasis of some tumors and inhibits angiogenesis. In the past three decades, inhibitors of angiogenesis have been developed as regulators target the vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) signaling pathway and small molecule tyrosine kinase inhibitors have been clinically approved. TSP-1 has several functional domain structures and inhibits tumor angiogenesis by engaging receptors CD36 and CD47. TSP-1 binding to CD47 dissociates it from VEGFR2, inhibiting downstream AKT activation and functional responses of endothelial cells to VEGF. Recently, macrophage phagocytosis and cytotoxic T-cell induction of tumor cells mediated by CD47-specific blocking antibodies have been proposed. These findings provide a new therapeutic paradigm for elinination of cancer cells and inhibition of angiogenesis of tumor by TSP-1.

This morphometric study of the trachea was performed to provide the basic data necessary for shielding crico-thyroid membrane incision, tracheal intubation and tracheotomy in korean bodies 48 (33 male, 15 female). Tracheal measurement included the number, the length, the anteroposterior and transverse diameters of trachea, and the height of tracheal cartilages, and the inter-rings distances of cartilages. The length of trachea was 104.0±1.4 mm in male and 102.3±1.9 mm in female, but there was no significance between males and females. All of the anteroposterior and transverse diameters, and the height were longer in males, compared with females, in the first, fifth, tenth and fifteenth tracheal cartilages. The anteroposterior and transverse diameters of the first and fifteenth tracheal rings, and the height of the first tracheal ring differed significantly male’s from female’s. The distances between posterior end of rings of the first, tenth and fifteenth tracheal cartilages were broader in males. The inter-rings distances of tracheal cartilage were also wider in the male, and showed significant differences in the 1st~2nd and 10~11th. These results suggest that this might be useful as a clinical basic data for the emergency physician, anesthetist, and associated medical doct

The 2nd to 4th digit ratio (2D : 4D) reflects exposure level of sex hormones in fetal period. The aim of this study is to identify a change of digit ratio according to age and a critical age showing gender difference in Korean children. This study was done on 1,182 children (588 males, 594 females). Data were collected by measuring index and ring finger length on both hands by photocopy. The data were analyzed using SPSS win 21.0. This study showed that the 2nd and 4th finger length and digit ratio of both hands increased with age both male and female. There was no differences in 2nd to 4th digit ratio between males and females until they were 3 years old. However, there were significant differences in 2nd to 4th digit ratio between males and females from the age of four. The results suggest that digit ratio in Korean children increases with age and a critical age showing gender difference is from the age of four.
