In this study, the origin of anatomical terms, the process by which international anatomical terms were made, and the making principles of international anatomical terminology were confirmed. We also describe the process in which the Japanese anatomy terminology (Termonologia Anatomica Japonica), which has been influential in Korea, has developed. Most of the past Korean anatomical terminology used the Japanese term. However, the Korean association of anatomists gradually recognized the necessity of own terminology and decided to refine the terms by forming a terminology committee. The terminology committee first laid down the direction for refining terms and made the basic principles of revising them. Through many meetings, the terms were refined and made into terminology book (Korean anatomical terminology). The Korean anatomical terminology has been revised five times since its first edition in 1979 to the sixth edition in 2014. Here, we illustrate the difference between Japanese terms and Korean terms and the process of refining Korean terms using examples.

In this study, the skeletal abnormalities associated with scurvy in subadults crania from three archaeological skeletal collections (Nukdo, Imdang, Yeanri), South Korea was analyzed to examine the prevalence and distribution of childhood scurvy of ancient Korea. For this, 30 subadults crania from the Nukdo, Imdang, Yeanri site were examined. Using criteria described by Ortner and Ericksen (1997) for identifying scurvy in skeletal material we evaluated the cranial skeleton of the subadults for evidence of abnormal porosity. All skeletal materials were macroscopically evaluated for pathological changes associated with scurvy. In results, lesions indicative of probable scurvy were observed in 22 individuals of 30 individuals. Based on the results, childhood disease relating to nutrition and metabolism in ancient Korea might have been widespread, along with scurvy. The results of the present study will be useful for understanding the health condition of the ancient Korean populations. Future work will add significantly to the larger picture of diet and disease within populations of ancient Korea.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the difference of airway between skeletal Class III malocclusion according to gender and to analyze the relationship between airway size and oral maxillofacial position. The total of 40 study subjects was sampled by judgment sampling, who were under 1 degree ANB and who wanted orthognathic surgery. They were taken with lateral cephalometric radiograph and the photos were used for final analysis. The variables were calculated using mean and standard deviation, those were analyzed by independent t-test, Pearson’s correlation coefficient and multiple regression analysis. It was located forward than the female that was the measurements of frontal bone, maxilla, mandible, and mentum in the male. The laryngeal pharynx size of the hard and soft tissues was also longer than the female. It was not statistically significant that was the correlation between the variables and the oral pharynx size. However, the width of the laryngeal pharynx increased with male and mandibular protrusion, and it was increased with the position of the anterior of frontal bone, maxilla, and mentum. The variables affecting the airway size are the laryngeal pharynx width of the hard and soft tissue.
