ABSTRACT

The purpose of this study is to consider the features and issues of Thai studies in Korea and to determine its future directions by examining present research studies. Scholarly interest in Thailand in Korea has been increasing since the mid-1990s. Based on Ph.D. dissertations, MA theses, journal articles and books, there has been considerable quantitative growth of research in Thailand studies up to the present time. Studies on Thailand in Korea have mainly focused on language, literature and education. Recently this trend has been accelerated by the dramatic increase in the number of Thai foreign students in Korea. This study suggests an improvement in the quality of Thai studies in Korea by suggesting the need for overcoming the divided outcomes of completed studies, the training of next-generation researchers, ongoing management for Thai students (the graduates) studying in Korea, the development of a network, and the creation of an academic system designed to publish works in book form.
