ABSTRACT
The Korean society spends a huge amount of resources in staging the U.S-Korea joint military drills annually. Not only the conservative but a significant portion of the liberal population takes the drills for granted in the face of the North Korean threat. This paper sheds light on this kind of conventional wisdom by dissecting related discourses. For the benefit of the doubt, first of all, this paper attempts to analyze the political contexts interwoven with the military drills. The identify of such factors, and the causes and the possible solutions will be the following discussion.
Finally, this paper strives to unearth those discursive strategies including justification, normalization, legalization and sensationalization that help to nurture nation-wide indifference possibly leading to ignorance.
