ABSTRACT

South Korean modern literature began to spread to China in the early twentieth century. Although there were developments and plateaus during the different periods, the history of translation and dissemination have lasted for a long time. In the perspective of the aims of translation, the image of South Korea has gone through many changes. At first, it was “a small country whose experience can be used for reference,” then it was “a neighboring country that allowed all flowers to bloom together in modern literature,” and at last it came to be “a country whose pop culture-Korean Wave-meets market demands.” On the basis of existing research, this study focuses on the historical changes in the translation and spread of South Korean modern literature in china from 1910 to the present. As a result, this paper shows the characteristics of different periods in modern history. Moreover, this paper points out the problems in the translations of South Korean modern literature and suggests solutions at a macro and comprehensive historical perspective.
