ABSTRACT

In this paper, I studied the Kentoushi, the passageway through which ancient Japan conducted exchanges with the rest of East Asian civilization and the concrete aspects of the culture that flowed from such a passage, paying special attention to Shosoin in Nara. Moreover, I focus on the extrinsic knowledge from Chinese books brought into Japan and how it begins to influence the Japanese civilization; I look at the specific aspects of it, analyzing classic literary texts from the Heian period called “Taketori Monogatari” and “Genji Monogatari.” From such considerations, we confirm aspects of the acceptance method practiced by the Japanese civilization, formed via fusion with outpatient civilizations, particularly China, all the while in constant collision with foreign entities.
