ABSTRACT

This article aims to draw an integration index among South Korea, China, and Japan, especially focusing on social-cultural areas. The existing research on the regional integration index has been concentrated on the economic aspect using quantitative analysis. In addition, there has been a limit of regional integration index research for the non-economic areas, such as political, social, and cultural aspects. In this perspective, this article tries to find diverse methods of drawing an actual East Asian integration index of social-cultural areas. Especially, through the theoretical foundation of new functionalism and social cohesion on the integration index normally used in European integration research, this article uses concepts of institution, relations, and convergence among South Korea, China, and Japan and searches for a way to draw the East Asian version integration index.
