ABSTRACT

The Shanghai Style Culture could be traced to the Culture of Wu and Yue in Late Spring and Autumn Period. And the thriving JiangNan Culture which was developed through the movements of migration to the south in the Jin and Song Dynasty was the origin of the Shanghai Style Culture. In modern times, with the grow-up of Shanghai, the Shanghai Style Culture, which began with painting and drama, was officially formed. It also eradiated and guided the JiangNan Culture. Shanghai was a trade port, an immigrants’ city as well as a Concession community, which contributed to the three main characteristics of the early Culture of Shanghai Style Culture, that is, Civicness, commerciality and inclusiveness. In the contemporary progress of urbanization, the all-inclusive multi-pattern of shanghai style culture was build up. It included four main cultural plates, that is, Western Culture, East Asian Culture, Shanghai Style Culture and Local Chinese culture.
