ABSTRACT

This study examines whether there was a hybridization between the educaꠓtional system introduced from the West and the ‘morality and ethics’ formed by the influx of new knowledge in the process of academic formation in the transition period of Korea, focusing on the pedagogical textbooks of the modern transition period, such as Choi Kwang-ok’s 『敎育學』, Yoo Ok-kyum’s 『簡明敎育學』, and Yoon Tae-young’s 『師範敎育學』. In addition, he traced the point of contact between the Confucian tradition and the new Western thought, which was the culmination of the cultural change of the modern era, as it was not simply a unilateral influx and transplantation, but a subjective acceptance and transformation. This study examines the introduction of Western pedagogy in textbooks according to the interdisciplinary system of the modern transition period and the concept of reception in traditional Confucianism. The significance is that the concept of ‘ethics’ was derived.
