AB - This thesis is a study that analyzed the 'reading social science books' of college students in the 1980s in the genealogy of ‘culture/education’. Until 1988, ‘liberal arts education’ in Korea was only served as a national subject that conveys anti-communist ideology. Even in the liberal arts curriculum, social science subjects were excluded, and there was no critically recognized Korean society. However, in the 1980s, a culture of reading ‘social science book reading’ as a sub-culture(counterculture) of college appears in circles and academic societies collectively. In the 1970s, the An anti-government movement of elite-centered college students was settled as a 'culture' of college students with the universal consent of college students in the 1980s. This is the result of embodying the social principles of the new community as well as the intellectual desire to objectively understand Korean society and the political dynamics that resist the system.,As a result, as the university has expanded quantitatively since the graduation quota system, college students' reading becomes an alternative ‘culture’ and becomes an experience of 386 generations of Korean society. This study attempted to interpret reading social science books as a culture of college students in the 1980s, away from the hostile political logic that only limits them to the actions of ‘ideology’ and ‘movement rights’.
