News articles deliver socially important information to public every day, so it have to be clear and easy to understand. Because of their similarities between Korean and Japanese, translated text adopting a word-for-word translation strategy can be acceptable sometimes. However, considering the characteristic of news articles, translators have to beware of using accurate phrase. Through analyzing news articles from the “Korean News” broadcasts by NHK World Radio Japan, this study attempts to examine the nature of the translated Korean news reported by the radio broadcast in Japan. The results indicated that translated news reflect not only linguistic aspects, but also geopolitical factors.(Rikkyo University Graduate School of Intercultural Communication, Japan)
