ABSTRACT

Ziying Wu and Xuehui Cao (2022). A study of needs analysis for the “Korean Language Enhancement for the Purpose of Translation and Interpretation” course: Focusing on Chinese KFL learners in the Korean-Chinese MTI program in China. This paper analyzes the perceptions and needs towards the course of Korean language enhancement for Chinese KFL learners in the Korean-Chinese MTI program in China. This paper first analyzes the language elements for Language B in the translation and interpretation process, and then examines the current status of Korean language education in the Korean-Chinese translation and interpretation curriculum. Based on the outcome of analyzing the needs of learners, the demand for pragmatic knowledge of Korean was found to be the most salient, and in terms of text types, the categories of “speeches and lectures” and “articles and columns” were found to be the most prominent, along with the subjects of “politics and diplomacy” and “economy and trade”. The results of the learner needs analysis presented in this study will contribute to the educational contents of Korean language enhancement courses.
