ABSTRACT

Eunjeong Jeon (2023). Translation analysis of commas in Japanese-Korean translation: Focusing on the novel “Kokoro” and translated books. The use of commas in Korean and Japanese demonstrates marked differences in frequency and pattern of use. This study investigates the differences in the use of commas in Korea and Japan, and analyzes the frequency of use for commas and translation strategies in relation to Japanese author Natsume Soseki's work, with the aim to present a translation strategy to accurately convey the meaning of the original text. Based on its findings, this study hopes to foster a deeper understanding toward the differences in the use of commas and translation patterns between Korean and Japanese, and how these factors affect the structure and meaning conveyance of translated texts in translation work. The results of this study are also expected to provide important guidelines in the fields of translation research and translation tool development, and thereby contribute to improving translation quality.
