ABSTRACT

This article focuses on the humanization of machines and human potential in Isaac Asimov’s novel Bicentennial Man and the movie version of the novel, <Bicentennial Man>. This can provide a clue to seeking the wisdom of living with artificial intelligence through the emergence of generative AI. Bicentennial Man is a work that centers on ‘robots becoming human.’ Robot Andrew’s body gradually changes into that of a human. As machines become closer to humans, humans also become closer to machines, leading to the question of how much are humans and how much are robots. The criteria for determining whether a person is a person or a machine are considered focusing on the relationship between the ‘brain’ and the body. Andrew had helpers on his difficult journey to become human. The beautiful coexistence of humans and machines is depicted, with people helping Andrew and Andrew helping people. Meanwhile, there are also people who hate robots and want to limit their scope. In the novel, only those who welcome robots leave for space, while those who do not remain on Earth, and the future of humanity is depicted as depending on space, not Earth. If artificial intelligence or robot technology can be dangerous to us, we must gather wisdom to solve it. Rather than avoiding risks, we must find ways to deal with them safely. The wisdom necessary for this search is hidden in Bicentennial Man.
