ABSTRACT

The sports variety show <Strongest Baseball> explores the meaning of old age through the journey of retired baseball players who relieve their lives as athletes. Beyond mere entertainment, the program highlights the aspirations and efforts of these former sports heroes to maintain their identities even after retirement. It serves as a lens to examine the desires of older generations in modern society and redefines their roles and values. Retired players, while technically belonging to the young or middle-aged demographic, have experienced physical aging as athletes and have undergone early retirement. This unique position allows them to embody and fulfill the aspirations associated with old age. They engage in serious competition with younger, physically superior, yet inexperienced amateur players, using the sport of baseball as a medium for meaningful interaction and communication. Their efforts as a team to achieve the goal of a 70% win rate illustrate what is essential for life after retirement, offering insights into the needs and aspirations of those in their later years. At the same time, their competition with amateur players highlights their role in fostering the growth of these young athletes, reaffirming their social value and contribution.
