ABSTRACT

As global mobility intensifies, societies are evolving into border less multicultural communities, prompting a shift in perspectives on multiculturalism and a need for educational reform. Korean language education plays a vital role in the social integration of immigrants and minority groups, contributing to national cohesion and development. In response to the growing number of foreign workers, marriage migrants, and their children, Korea has expanded its Korean language education system both quantitatively and qualitatively. Since 2012, official curricula for immigrant-background students have been introduced in public education. This study reviews the current status of Korean language education for foreign residents and examines its necessity and future directions in the context of a multicultural society.
