ABSTRACT

The significance of Uichon's compilation of Wonjongmunryu(圓宗文類) in the middle Koryo dynasty Park, Yong-Jin Wonjong-munryu(圓宗文類) was edited between 1087 and 1088 (before editing the Sinp'yon-Chechong Kyochang Ch'onglog). Wonjong-munryu was an easy guide book for the students who start to learn Hwaom sect, and aims to comprehend the sacred book and to convince himself of a truth through Jangso(章疏). The name, Wonjong-munryu, came from the king. Wonjong-munryu is a work for which Uichon compiled its editing formation and content, and his disciple, Hwaeomgyogwan(華嚴敎觀)'s Uihaksamun(義學沙門) took charge of its revision. Wonjongmunyu consists of 22 volumes, but the first, Jemunbaljeryu(諸文發題類), the fourteenth, Jemunhangwiryu(諸文行位類), and the twenty second, Chansongjapmunryu(讚頌雜文類) currently have been handed down. The commentaries in Wonjong-munryu were mostly the collection of the writings from the famous Chinese priests, for example Beopjang, Jinggwan, Jongmil and Jiom, in Hwaom sect(華嚴宗). The study abroad in Song enlarged Uichon's understanding of Hwaom, from Jinggwan-Hwaom to Beopjang-Hwaom after. With this understanding, he set up a HwaomKyohak(華嚴敎學) in the middle Koryo dynasty. Saying that comprehensive arrangement of various Hwaom Munryu which was in fashion in the middle Koryo dynasty was carried out has a meaning.
