ABSTRACT

The Odaesan-related record in 『Samgukyusa』 is covered by 4 parts in the end of Tabsangjesa. It shows how the status of Odaesan was when 『Samgukyusa』 was published. First, this paper deals with Jajang who was told as the originator of Odaesan among the Odaesan-related records. The most important material in relation with the opening of Odaesan is the article「Daesanomanjinsin」. But this record is problematic because it is different from other records on Jajang. This paper checks the validity of Odaesan records in the article「Daesanomanjinsin」by comparing them with other Jajang-related documents. The problems examined here are 'the period when Jajang visited Chinese Odaesan', 'the place where Jajang met Mañjuśri' and 'the possibility that Jajang visited Korean Odaesan after returning to his home land.' These problems are dealt with in the Odaesan-related records in the article「Daesanomanjinsin」but have differences with those in other Jajang-related records. So, through the checkup of these problems we can primarily establish a clearer recognition on the Odaesan Buddhism. And secondly a deeper understanding on Jajang can be obtained. The Odaesan-related record in 『Samgukyusa』 is a religious one, especially representing the profit of a special group related with Odaesan faith. Therefore, its interpretation needs to be made in consideration of diverse viewpoints and the correct recognition should be constructed through it. With this effort, we can get clearer understanding on the Odaesan-related records in 『Samgukyusa』and at the same time more abundant knowledge about ancient history.
