AB - This thesis aims to find out a social intercourse patterns of Sadaebu(士大夫) through their traveling. As for it, it seems to diverse activities but this thesis will divide three kinds of them such as monks, a teacher and pupil(門人),acquaintance(知人).
Among them, Sadaebu meets monks many times because they almost travel to the mountain. When they go to the mountain, their aid is needed. Thus it is the dispensable relationship between Sadaebu and monks. According to Sadaebu’s documents, there are many Monk’s names. Most Sadaebu voiced their criticism about Buddhist’s ceremony and look down on them but some of them are in favor of meeting monks. When Sadaebu meet monks who write the poem very well, they get along with them by receiving and giving their poems(酬唱). Also when Sadaebu meet monks who have a special academic knowledge, they talk each other by giving their idea about Confucianism and Buddhism. They are very delighted when meeting monks that they already knew and easily talk to them about their internal emotion.
And Sadaebu encounters a district’s scholar in same school during this traveling. This is the special relations between them in the Mt.Chungryang (淸凉山) and Mt.Jiri(智異山). These mountains visited most of the Joseon dynasty, Youngnam-Sarims(嶺南士林). Mt.Chungryang the Toegye(退溪) Lee-Hwang (李滉) and Mt.Jiri the Nammyeong(南冥) Cho-Shik(曺植) is originated from the former and it is the cradle about that. Therefore the Youngnam-Sarims often travel the area in order to find out ancestor’s philosophy and admire them, even see their senior and junior scholars.
In addition, the area such as Mt.Geumgang(金剛山), Gaeseong(開城) is the most memorable place for Sadaebu. Even if their relationship between the teacher and them is not evident, they get along each other by this traveling.
During this traveling they can meet their acquaintance and the governor who can help their traveling. Moreover, they can be more familiarized with their relatives by planning to play with them.
The main method to commute their relatives and friends is to write the letter because the transportation is bad in the Joseon dynasty and there is lack of the communication method. Thus going traveling is one of the vehicles about contacting the people who don’t have chance to commute.
