ABSTRACT

The purpose of this study was to explore female college students'perception of filial piety by multidimensional scaling and hierarchical cluster analysis and to analyze the importance of filial piety. 20 female college students conducted a paired-comparison rating on 13 contents of filial piety and 183students rated the importance of each statement describing filial piety. Results were as follows: First, filial piety were perceived by two primary dimensions:emotion-focused versus behavior-focused. Second, filial piety was categorized as 'caring', 'respect', and 'supporting. Third, participants rated 'caring','respect' more important than 'supporting'. Implication for research and practice were discussed.
