ABSTRACT

The filial piety culture, which occupies the core position in Chinese traditional culture, has been seriously challenged and criticized with the Confucian culture since it entered modern society. After the reform and opening-up, China has done a lot of work in restoring and revitalizing the traditional culture, but with the rapid development of the economy, the low fertility, the aging and the widening gap between the rich and the poor have brought about great changes in family relations and family ethics in China. On the basis of investigating the historical factors that cause the change of filial piety thought, this paper focuses on the social factors that cause the change of filial piety thought in modern Family, the changes of filial piety, the expectation of parents in the modern family on filial piety and the deep reason of the change. Through previous studies, social survey results and interviews, it is found that some families are suffering from the crisis of filial piety, but in many families, parents are not just passively accept this change, but show a positive attitude. They are more in favor of negotiative intimacy with their children than absolute authority. Parents play an active role in building a family relationship that communicates, understands and respects each other.
