ABSTRACT

An organism is any living system, such as animal, plant, fungus, or microーorganism, which is capable of response to stimuli, reproduction, growth, development, and maintenance of homeostasis as a stable whole. Biology is the science which studies on the function, structure, growth, evolution and distribution of all living organisms; and which studies on the nature of organisms in the world. Recently much attention is paid on biology, because it is an important fundamental science that is the key for solving the biggest human issues, such as pollution, population problem and grain problem. Long time ago, our ancestors settled down in Koreaーthe land, which was rich in natural resources. Since then, they had named the plants and animals and these names and their usages were formed into Korean biological terms. As South Korean and North Korean broke off their diplomatic relations, they have named the biological resources separately according to their own understanding and formulation, and the features of biological terms in South Korea and North Korean became different. And these differences cause big problems for mutual understanding, communication, and even for unification of Korean language. This paper is to find the proper solution of unification of the biological terms by studying and analyzing current usage of biological terms. This will be helpful to enhance communication and unify the Korean language.
