ABSTRACT

The aim of this study is to present a survey of the different preventive behaviors of middle-aged people. Our hypothesis is that many social inequalities are also present in the different types of preventive behaviors. As a methodological tool we conducted telephone interviews with 1,093 people in the age-cohort 45 to 65 years. The results show that the preventive behavior can be distinguished in five types differing in the degree of the various measures and activities. The factors income and personal responsibility play a major role and have effects on the preventive measures. Furthermore we proved cohesion between subjective state of health and the preventive behavior.
