ABSTRACT

The purpose of this paper is to introduce a new concept, International Rhetoric(IR). I tried to draw its concept and definition from sociocultural and intercultural perspectives. I drew two main concepts featuring IR from the features of modernism and postmodernism. To set up a theoretical framework for its adaptation to pedagogy, constructivism and the sociocultural theory were studied. I also indicated how IR notions have been applied to the ESL settings and how they should be applied to Korean settings for the effective education in the future. Microscopically, I hope that this paper will shift the views of the people involved in English education and help to draw a wide range of understanding of the so called non elite students and problem makers at school as well as the children from multi ethnic families. And macroscopically, I hope that the IR concepts will help shift the views of policy makers and help their decision making to set the educational policies of Korea.
