ABSTRACT

Baek Seok translated a lot of works during the days in North Korea, most of which were both Russian literature works and Soviet literature works. This is why studying on these translated works is of great importance to evaluate Baek Seok during the days in North Korea. Then this research tried to set up a prospect for the studying on his translated works, specially his translated poems. For this reason, this paper, first, reviewed the evaluation on Baek Seok's achievements by the academia of South Korea and inspected the evaluation by the academia of South Korea on Baek Seok's efforts in 1950s when he threw his energy to translate works. In addition, this paper reviewed the prevailing perception on translation itself. Through these series of research, this paper concluded that Baek Seok's translating efforts might be an alternative to the lack of professional translators and that his translated poems should be studied overall separated from their antecedent poems.
