ABSTRACT

Utilitarianism is a theory that uses the principles of utility and maximum happiness as a moral basis. The happiness pursued by utilitarians is not about personal good. They thought that the value of goodness pursued by the community was the best happiness. Utilitarianism values results rather than actors' motives. Thus, utilitarianism seemed to fall into excessive result-orientedism. J. S. Mill did not focus solely on the outcome of the actors. He carefully treated individual behavior. Mill knew that utilitarianism was biased to the outcome. Thus, he focused on the judgment and value of experienced people. Mill said that individuals should listen to educated individuals and their experiences. This paper points to the limitation that utilitarianism focuses only on the consequences of actors' actions. And this article will focus on finding the value of experience and its implications in Mill's utilitarianism.
