ABSTRACT

This study aimed to reveal the politically contained meaning by analyzing the relationship between depression and quality of life, and the factors which affect the quality of life of elderly with disability in an actual proof manner. Purposive sampling was conducted with 430 elderly more than 65 years old with disability who lived in Jeollanam-do. For the study results, frequency analysis, technology statistical analysis, chi-square test, t-test, ANOVA, and hierarchical multiple regression using the SPSS 14.0 statistical package were conducted. The main study results were as follows. In the relationship with depression, the depression degree of the following groups were high: women elderly with disability, brain disease elderly with disability, elderly with disability by the separation of death, low study level elderly with disability, low economic level elderly with disability, and elderly with disability coming under basic living objects. In the quality of life, that of elderly with disability for more than 30 years, elderly with disability not coming under basic living objects, high economic level elderly with disability, and elderly with disability having hearing impairments were high. In addition, it appeared that a higher depression was correlated with a lower quality of life . Based upon the above study results, I suggest the following welfare-contained meanings in elderly with disability. Firstly, as the depression degree is high and quality of life is low in elderly with disability, special concern and consideration needs to be focused on elderly with disability. Secondly, as the quality of life of elderly with disability differs according to the type and level of disability, we need to reflect this difference in the practice of welfare service.
